The timing's perfect—we're drowning in an avalanche of AI slang while ChatGPT hit 1 billion users and the generative AI market exploded from $10B in 2023 to over $100B in 2026.

But here's the thing: knowing that "hallucinations" means AI spitting out plausible-sounding lies doesn't actually help when GPT-4 confidently tells you Napoleon invented the croissant.

The Vocabulary Treadmill

The glossary covers the usual suspects—AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), LLMs (Large Language Models), alignment, and that crowd favorite, agentic AI. All useful terms. All completely meaningless without context.

For everyone else? The glossary's fine. Learn the terms. Sound informed at meetings. But remember that half these definitions will be outdated by the time GPT-6 drops.

The AI industry loves its jargon because it makes everything sound more scientific than "we trained a really big autocomplete and honestly we're not sure why it works." Sometimes the emperor's new clothes are just really well-documented.

TechCrunch's glossary won't hurt. But don't mistake vocabulary for understanding. The most honest thing anyone can say about AI right now is: "I have no idea what happens next."
